Frequently asked questions

Everything people ask before they call, answered the way we’d answer on the phone.

General

The basics.

What areas do you serve?

We're based in Visalia, CA (MG's started in Tulare in 2011) and serve Tulare, Kings, Fresno, and Kern Counties, including Visalia, Hanford, Dinuba, Cutler, Orosi, Porterville, Exeter, Lindsay, Reedley, Kingsburg, Selma, Delano, and surrounding communities.

Are you licensed and insured?

Yes. MG's Air Conditioning & Heating is a California-licensed HVAC contractor (CSLB License #960470) and carries all required insurance and bonding. You can verify our license on the CSLB website.

How quickly can you come out for an AC repair?

During summer we run same-day and next-day calls across Tulare County and usually within 24–48 hours for Kings, Fresno and Kern Counties. No-cool emergencies with seniors, infants, or health concerns in the home go to the front of the line.

Do you offer free estimates?

Yes. Estimates for new system installations and replacements are always free and come as a written quote with no obligation. Repair calls include a flat diagnostic fee that's credited toward the repair.

What regular maintenance does a heating and air conditioning system need?

Unrestricted airflow is the key. Filters, coils, and heat exchangers need to be clear of Valley dust and debris. We recommend a professional check twice a year, spring for cooling and fall for heating, and changing your filter every 30–60 days during summer.

When should I replace my existing heating and air conditioning unit?

Most manufacturers suggest 12–20 years. If your system has broken down several times, your bills keep climbing, or a repair would cost more than about a third of a new system, replacement usually makes more financial sense. We'll give you an honest assessment either way.

Do you speak Spanish? / ¿Hablan español?

Sí. Ofrecemos servicio completo en español. Llámenos al (559) 623-2210.

What brands do you work on?

All of them. Carrier, Trane, Lennox, Goodman, Rheem, Ruud, York, Day & Night, Bryant, American Standard, Amana, Daikin, Mitsubishi, and more.

Are there rebates for a new system?

Sometimes. We'll tell you honestly which ones are real right now. The federal 25C tax credit expired December 31, 2025, and most TECH Clean California funds are waitlisted. What's still available: PG&E rebates (Golden State Rebates), SCE Marketplace rebates, and the Valley Air District's heat-pump change-out program (up to $3,500 in Tulare/Kings Counties, $5,000 in Fresno/Kern) if you retire a wood stove or fireplace. Your address decides which utility applies.

Do you work on commercial buildings?

Yes: rooftop package units, split systems and mini-splits for shops, offices, restaurants, and ag facilities, plus maintenance contracts with priority response.

Repairs, installs, heating and rebates.

How fast can you get to my house?

During summer we run same-day and next-day repair calls across Tulare County, and usually within 24–48 hours for Kings, Fresno, and Kern Counties. Call (559) 623-2210 and we'll give you an honest window.

Do you charge a diagnostic fee?

We'll tell you the diagnostic fee up front when you call, and you'll get a flat price for the repair before any work starts. No surprises on the invoice.

Should I repair or replace my AC?

Our rule of thumb: if the unit is over 12–15 years old and the repair costs more than about a third of a new system, replacement usually wins on energy bills and reliability. We'll run the numbers with you on site.

How much does a new AC cost in Tulare?

Most full central-air replacements in the Central Valley land between $7,000 and $15,000 depending on size, efficiency, and whether ductwork needs work. Heat pumps can qualify for PG&E or SCE rebates and, if you're retiring a wood stove, up to $3,500–$5,000 from the Valley Air District. We'll quote your exact house for free.

How long does installation take?

A straightforward changeout is usually one day. Conversions from a swamp cooler or jobs that include new ductwork can take two to three days.

What brands do you install?

We install and service all major brands and recommend what fits your home and budget best rather than pushing one label.

Why is my furnace blowing cold air?

Common causes are a dirty filter tripping the limit switch, a failed igniter or flame sensor, or a thermostat fan setting stuck on. We'll diagnose it quickly and give you a flat repair price.

Is a heat pump a good idea in the Central Valley?

Yes. Our mild winters are ideal for heat pumps. They cool in summer, heat efficiently in winter, and can qualify for utility and Valley Air District incentives.

How often should I service my AC in Tulare County?

Twice a year: cooling in spring (March–May) and heating in fall. Because of Valley dust, change your filter every 30–60 days in summer.

Is a tune-up worth it on an older unit?

Especially then. A tune-up is when we catch a weak capacitor or low charge before it becomes a compressor failure in July.

Do heat pumps work in 105° heat?

Yes. Modern heat pumps are rated to cool efficiently well above Valley summer highs, and inverter models actually run more efficiently at partial load than a standard AC.

What incentives are available?

As of 2026: PG&E rebates via Golden State Rebates, SCE Marketplace rebates, and the San Joaquin Valley Air District's Fireplace & Woodstove Change-Out (up to $3,500 in Tulare/Kings, $5,000 in Fresno/Kern) when you retire a wood-burning device. The federal 25C credit expired at the end of 2025. See our Rebates page for current status.

How do I know if my ducts are leaking?

Rooms that never cool, dusty registers, high bills, and a system that runs non-stop are the classic signs. We can measure leakage directly and show you the number.

Do you offer recurring maintenance for businesses?

Yes. We set up quarterly or semi-annual maintenance with filter changes, coil cleaning, and logged inspections on a schedule that fits your building.

Are you open 24/7?

Our office hours are Monday–Saturday 8–5, and we keep a 24/7 emergency line for no-cool calls. During heat waves we extend hours and prioritize homes with kids, seniors or health concerns.
